About

The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.
Eleanor Roosevelt
Recent graduate Charlotte Relf is a textile designer who specialises in Embroidery with a difference. Her passion for the extraordinary is evident in her work through brave colour decisions, curious fusions of textural fabric and modernising of traditional embroidery techniques. Much of Charlotte’s inspiration is drawn from her surroundings, exploring new places and opening her mind to new experiences. She takes inspiration from other contemporary artists such as Dan Lam, Serena Garcia Dalla Venezia and Francesca Belgiojoso.
Her work consists of eye catching series of hallucinatory landscapes that are influenced by personal emotions, and visuals experienced within the confused state of awakening.
By combining unusual cinematic images haphazardly and using non-traditional materials with exaggerated embroidery stitches, Charlotte captures the tension within surreal settings capturing the attention of the viewers.
Charlotte strives to make impactful designs that evoke a reaction from her viewers through a combination of digital graphics, collage, mark making and material exploration. Her ideas often start forming in a sketchbook and she then ventures out of the restrictions of paper to sample testers and developments until she's happy.
